Committee Prefects 2006/7
![]() |
Senior Prefect: Phoebe Fildes
My main job, is to manage and lead our team of 40 prefects.
With the help of Beccie, the Second Head of College, I chair weekly meetings of the prefects as well as a meeting solely for the committee prefects. An important aspect of my job is making sure that everyone works well as a team and has her opinions heard and taken into consideration. Each girl must work well with her allotted member of staff. The organisation of the prefects involves drawing up duty rotas and ensuring that these are carried out. I have to make sure that the prefects are aware of what is going on in College. I support the Principal and carry out those duties which she asks me to undertake, particularly concerning the welfare of the prefects and the student body. Finally, it is my duty to represent College girls at a termly Forum meeting which I organise with the Second Head of College. There we discuss issues which have been raised about academic matters and pastoral care.
Second Head of College: Beccie Whittaker
My job is to support the Senior Prefect and assist her in managing the prefect body. I deputise for her when she is absent. I also support Mrs. Roberts, the Vice Principal Pastoral, and meet with her weekly to discuss matters concerned with the school and prefects; this also involves ensuring that everyone is happy and balancing their academic life with other activities. Our main focus as prefects this year is the integration of new and old girls. It is my job, along with Mrs. Roberts and the input of the other prefects, to come up with exciting new ideas to make this possible!
Prefect to the Vice Principal Academic: Katharine Duncan
Being prefect to Miss Adams, Vice Principal Academic, means that I am responsible for helping her to form and put in place new academic policies for College. I liaise between her, the prefect body and the rest of the students to ensure all views are heard and taken into account, promoting a strong teaching and learning ethic in College, and making sure that links between girls and academic staff are maintainded.
Lower College Prefect: Alice Bowring
As prefect to Mrs Pellereau, I assist her in the running of Lower College.
One of my roles is to ensure the new girls settle in. Another is to make sure that there are no problems lower down in the school and, if there are, to sort them out in the most appropriate way. I am also connected with "Ones’ Club" which is an activity that runs throughout the year organised for the entertainment of the first year girls.
Upper College Prefect: Lauren McGurk
I am assigned to Mrs Vass, Head of Upper College. I organise rotas for break duty and West Wing Hall to ensure that everything runs smoothly. We look at ways to improve the environment of College and of the houses for UC4 and UC5 girls. I am also available for any queries from UC5 girls about issues concerning Sixth Form College so that their transition is made easier.
Sixth Form College Prefect: Harriott Pinnock
As prefect to the head of SFC, my main responsibility is to keep an eye on welfare within the Sixth Form, and, if necessary, pass on any concerns to Miss Kirk during our weekly meetings. I organise Sixth Form break, make sure people are quiet on their way into school when the staff meeting takes place, and am also partly responsible for tidiness in the Common Room. I have also been asked to organise a committee to create this year’s Leavers’ Yearbook.
Chaplain’s Prefect: Anna Gateley
My main job is to help our Chaplain, Reverend Merry, with the organisation of the spiritual and moral life of College. During our weekly meetings, we discuss ideas for College Prayers and weekly Sunday services, as well as considering how the religious and spiritual provision within College can be broadened and improved. We are currently working to bring the Chaplaincy into the twenty-first century by installing a Chaplaincy web page on the College intranet site where girls can find resources to extend their religious discovery. We are eager to extend the support provided for those of other faiths within College, and widen others’ knowledge of these world religions.
Charity Prefect: Zara Bilgrami
Together Miss Beanlands and the other charity prefects and I help to organise events and raise money for the six charities College is supporting. Through the fundraising activities I hope that we can make people more aware of the charities, as well as involving them in enjoyable events so that we can give as much as possible to each of the six local and overseas organisations we have chosen to support this year.
Admissions Tutor’s Prefect: Christine Abbotts
I am the prefect to the Admissions Tutor, Dr. Laver. My job involves helping to organise Open Days, looking after prospective parents and girls and generally assisting Dr Laver where new families are concerned. I hope to support visitors and be able to give them an insight into life for students at College.
Prefect to the Director of the Extra-Curricular Programme: Georgie Raggett
I am assigned to help Mr. Hope, the director of the Extra-Curricular Programme here in College. As well as promoting the plethora of activities on offer, this year we’re working on ideas specifically for the sixth form as we felt that the activities on offer were perhaps not as appealing to them anymore.
We are also continuing to support the Lower College girls in their efforts to complete the Lower College Award, a project which encourages girls to attend an activity for a certain amount of time, thus showing a level of commitment.
Marketing Prefect: Jess Rowles Nicholson
I am the prefect for the Marketing and Communications Director, Mrs Naylor. Mrs Naylor is new this year so one of my roles is to help her to gain a good knowledge of College and keep her informed about any issues that may affect the marketing of the school. An example of something that I do is commenting on the appearance of promotional items for College.
Prefect to the Development Office and the Guild Office: Chloe Shiner
I am assigned to Miss Tudge, the Development Office and the Guild Office. I assist in the organisation of events which are run by both Guild and the Development team. The Development Office promotes College and helps it to grow. The Guild Office gives former students the opportunity to return to an organized event or simply for a tour of college. I meet weekly with the Development Director, Miss Tudge, to discuss my aims, as well as any help that will be needed for forthcoming events.
