Sixty Years of Senior Prefects - 7 May 2004
After 150 years the Senior Prefects gathered to celebrate 150 years of College education and to exchange their memories. It was hard to recognise the entrance to College and very strange to look across the garden from an unusual angle at the buildings. I could orientate myself around the big copper beech tree but the most poignant memories came from the faint but familiar smell of polish and wood in the Princess Hall. It was all still there but apart from the smell - so very much changed. Read more...
Visiting East Asia - April 2004
It was with delight and some relief that The Principal, Mrs Vicky Tuck, and the then Chairman of Guild, Mrs Mary Blackburn, travelled to East Asia. Their two week trip had, unfortunately, been cancelled the previous year due to the outbreak of the SARS virus. Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok were on the itinerary this year and both Mrs Tuck and Mrs Blackburn were thrilled to meet so many Guild Members in each city. The Principal was very pleased to show highlights of some of the superb 150th events that had taken place during the year at College via a short video put together especially for the trip. Guild Biennial Weekend - 2004
The main focus of the 2004 Guild Biennial weekend was to join with College to celebrate the 150th birthday of College. The weekend began with a dinner held on Friday evening for former Senior Prefects and Second Heads of College with entertainment by SMT and the present Prefects' Committee. It was fascinating to meet representatives of so many different generations and learn how their time at College had shaped their lives. Read more...
1990s & 2000s Reunion & Guild Biennial Weekend
"Is this how we were? Were we ever this youthful and yet so poised and confident?" We were both excited and interested but also a little nervous. We walked to the GCR and quickly found two 'girls' from our year. It was a big relief to recognise some familiar, if more mature, faces. More people arrived, some had brought husbands or boyfriends, others even had a 'little one' with them. We started spotting people we had last seen when they had been 11 or 12 and tried to remember names & houses. We were all ushered into the PH for prayers. Read more...
1980s Decade Reunion
"The whole experience was extremely cathartic..." As everyone foregathered for the penultimate reunion held to celebrate College's 150th Birthday, the overwhelming impression was of a "wall of sound". One husband confided that he now understood how his wife had acquired a City Trader's voice! But it was sounds of delight, enthusiasm, recognition, not only of each other but also of teachers and College, together with the realization of how much they had all achieved. Read more...
1970s Decade Reunion - 4 October 2003
"Others, unforgettable friends, had not changed at all!" When the decade reunions were suggested as part of the 150th celebrations I suddenly panicked. I had never been to any reunion; perhaps I had even avoided them. I am not even very good at organising parties but when I was assured that all that was asked of me as a Guild decade representative was some help in making contact with old girls I thought of Friends Reunited and breathed a sigh of relief. 1960s Decade Reunion - May 2003
Two hundred and sixty friends gathered for the 1960s decade reunion in May 2003. It was a bright warm day and the College buildings and grounds looked their best. In fine tradition, the day started with Prayers and we were warmly welcomed by the Principal, Vicky Tuck. She wittily reminded us all of outstanding events in the 1960s, but told us the present pupils were amused and disappointed that we no longer lived up to the "Hippy, Flower Power" image of that era! 1950s Decade Reunion
8 March 2003, the 1950s decade reunion with 260 attendees...
Prayers in the PH was the same, but 50 years on... the atmosphere is the same, but we are now allowed to see the wonderful frieze above the arch. I wonder why it was covered for all those years, as it is truly wonderful; maybe we would have spent too much time daydreaming and not enough on the hymns, etc. Read more...
Pre-1949 Reunion - October 2002
"The journey into the past began with a walk down the Marble Corridor which most swore had shrunk over the years..." Mickey Mouse, the BBC and the discovery of penicillin, were all current affairs in the late 20s when, amongst many others, twelve young ladies left College. Seventy two years later those same twelve women returned for a reunion of Old Girls who had left College pre-1949. Read more...
